The number of cyber attacks against organizations in the healthcare industry is increasing and this trend is expected to continue in 2017. According to a report released by the security firm TrapX, criminal organizations are more focused on stealing data to spread ransomware.
Experts say, 31% of all major HIPAA data breaches were caused by sophisticated attacks, a 300% increase over the past three years. Trend Micro-s recently published report on "Cybercrime and other threats faced by the healthcare industry", is widely discussed on several medical portals.
Growth of interest in such issues is not surprising: this March the Institute for Internet Development and a number of scientific medical institutions created a Russian Telemedicine Consortium (RTC). Pilot project of telemedicine express mini-clinics starts this May in Moscow, so that people could measure pressure and pulse or donate blood without leaving a shopping mall.
